Control Dimension Text

The placement of dimension text, arrowheads and leader lines relative to the dimension and extension lines can be organized.

Fit Dimension Text Within Extension Lines

If enough space is available, dimension text and arrowheads will be shown between the extension lines, if there is not enough space however, you can determine the way these elements are placed.

How the dimension text and arrowheads are placed within the extension lines is influence by many factors, such as the size of extension line spacing and arrowhead size.

When creating dimensions, you can specify a user-defined text placement by entering a coordinate or using the pointing device. Or use the text position computing by the program. You can find different options for automatic fitting of text and arrowheads in the Fit tab of Dimension Style Manager(DIMSTYLE) . If you specify that keep text and arrowheads together, but there is not enough space for both between the extension lines, both are placed outside. If there is room for only text or arrowheads, you can specify only one of them will be placed between the extension lines.

You can choose to let the program create a leader line, if there is not enough space for text between the extension lines. It is recommended to use this option when text outside the extension lines would interfere with other geometry. You can control if the text is drawn to the right or to the left of the leader by using the horizontal justification setting on the Text tab of the Modify/New Dimension Style dialog box. Or you can modify their size to make text and arrowheads fit.

You can have a line drawn between the extension lines, even if the arrowheads are outside the extension lines, which is called forcing an internal line.

Control the Location of Dimension Text

Dimension text can be located manually and its alignment and orientation modified.
The following three align styles: horizontal, aligned with dimension line, ISO standard are provided by GStarCAD.

You can also specify text placement, such as vertical, horizontal, view direction and offset from dim line.

Control the Appearance of Dimension Text

Prefixes, suffixes and user-supplied text can be included in dimensions and the text style and formatting, you are using for dimension text can be modified.

A mixture of user-supplied text, prefixes and suffixes supplied by the dimension style and generated measurements is supported by this program. You can add a diameter symbol as a prefix to a measurement and add a suffix, for example the abbreviation mm for a unit. Text in this context refers to all dimension text, prefixes and suffixes, primary and alternate units, and lateral tolerances. Geometric tolerances are controlled independently.

Control the Text Style in Dimensions

The text style you select in the Text tab of Dimension Style Manager will influence the appearance of dimension text. Text style, text color and text height independent of the current text style's height setting, can be determined when you create a dimension style. The gap between base dimension text and the surrounding box can also be modified.

The text styles used for dimensions are the same text styles used by all text in your drawing.

Supply User Text to Dimensions

When you create a dimension, you can also add your own text . The prefix, suffix and user-supplied text form a single text string and you can use the text editor to represent tolerance stacks and to modify font, text size and other characteristics.

You can use the separator symbol \X, to insert user text above and below the dimension line. Text that precedes this symbol is aligned with and above the dimension line. Text that follows the \X symbol is aligned with and below the dimension line. The value you enter under Gap in the Annotation dialog box, will specify the space between the dimension line and the text.
